Roger Motzkus

Born and raised in Northern Utah, Roger Motzkus spent a lot of time drawing as a youth and received a full scholarship to the University of Utah. He was a working professional before he graduated with a degree in Painting and Drawing. His early work included being a layout and storyboard artist for television animation with episodes produced by Marvel Comics, Thunder Cats and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Roger was able to support himself with freelance illustration in the Utah area and soon his work was being published by clients from coast to coast.

He and his wife moved to Southern California where they lived for 13 years and grew personally and professionally and had 3 children. Roger has gained a large list of very recognizable clients and a reputation that allowed him to be represented as among the best Illustrators in the country.

His work has been honored in many art shows including “The Society of Illustrators West” exhibits, and he has been interviewed along with his art presented in many publications. He’s been a guest instructor at many colleges in different States, including the Pasadena Art Center. His work has evolved to fit in diverse markets including: Entertainment and movie poster design, Advertising, Publishing, Children’s Books, toy packaging, the computer gaming industry and even traditional Portraits and Fine Art.

Roger returned to his Utah roots and currently lives in the Salt Lake area. Professionally, he teaches at Salt Lake Community College and has recently been kept very busy doing "Alternative Movie Posters" for private commissions. Personally, he is a certified yoga instructor and has taught weekly classes for many years, including for the Utah Prison system and is certified to teach with a trauma sensitive specialty. He may also be found singing competitively, gardening, fishing, and striving to be a good husband and father.
